What is the KYOTO TRAIL?
  The KYOTO TRAIL consists of two different hiking courses:

1) An approx. 80km-long hiking course which starts from the southeast of the city in the Fushimi-Momoyama area and goes through Fushimi Inari Shrine, Mt. Hieizan, Ohara, and Kurama, leading to Arashiyama.

2) An approx. 40km-long course that threads through the northern part of Kyoto, in the Keihoku area where you can appreciate beautiful landscapes of lush green forests, clean streams, and tranquil rice fields.

What is special about the KYOTO TRAIL?
1.There are sign posts on each hiking courses giving clear directions.
2.Each hiking course starts near from a railway station or bus stop.
3.Each hiking course has historical attractions, including some World Heritage Sites, all of which can be enjoyed only in Kyoto.
4.You can decide which route to take depending on your physical condition.
5.There are some observatory spots in the course where you can enjoy fine view of the city.

東山コース Higashiyama Course
(Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine - Shogun-zuka - Path of Philosophy - Mount Hiei)

This course, convenient to public transportation, is recommended for beginners. Kyoto’s popular sightseeing spots are located on the way and you can enjoy Kyoto’s nature and history.

Eastern Kitayama Course
(Mount Hiei - Ohara - Kurama/Ninose)

Walk across grand Mount Hiei and enter the peaceful rural areas of Ohara and Shizuhara. You will be surrounded by fresh air and nature for the entire course.
北山西部コース Eastern Kitayama Course
(Kurama/Ninose - Himuro - Sawa no Ike Pond - Mitsuo/Kiyotaki)

Walking through the country area of the Kitayama cedar forest, you will arrive in the rural Mitsuo and Kiyotaki area. Some of the names of places indicate that this area has a very long history.
西山コース Nishiyama Course
(Mitsuo/Kiyotaki - Toriimoto - Togetsu-kyo Bridge - Mount Matsuo - Kamikatsura)

This course is recommended for families. There are many interesting sightseeing spots on the way starting from the Toriimoto area. You will fully enjoy this course no matter which season you go.

(Hosono -Mt.Dendozan - Kuroda - Yuge - Shuzan)
500 yen
Whole Keihoku area is part of Tanba Highland and over 90% is covered with trees. Cool even in the midst of hot humid summer and whole area buried in lush green.
